The Last Man and the Last Mile Connectivity in Leadership

Image
The source must deliver seamlessly  In the technological communications the “ the last mile connectivity” is considered the holy grail. The source must deliver to the user seamlessly. This is an inflexible concept practised by every source  Every ordinary leadership also tries to communicate to the last audience  Mostly we are trained to set our eyes & minds for the most represented communications. This is quite normal & logical  The Reverse Concept  But what most forgets is the reverse of it. The leadership must also allow the last man to speak up. It ought to hear the last voice in the communication process. It should necessarily hear the feeblest voiced ideas, concepts, grievances & feedbacks  On the other hand the visionaries go beyond the obvious. They look for things that others skip. They hear the voices which many dismiss  Why They Do it  One may ask as to why they practice such leadership style?  They do not always...

What Has Thinking To Do With Thought Leadership

Image
What you Think is More Important Everybody thinks. Nobody can survive without thinking. Thinking is central to our existence.  But what we think decides our higher purposes in life Everybody gets some ideas which they think are unique. How many times we may have hit upon some brilliant ideas but which remained buried in our thoughts for the rest of our lives unimplemented But what separates great minds from the rest are the “ centrality of the thinking ” & “ groundings of their ideas ” out of the thinking The Successful Thinkers Successful thinkers put their ideas on the ground & believe me most of such ideas are simple in essence At the same time some brilliant ideas just remained thoughts because it was never implemented & tried Most of the successful startups are basically effective implementation of the simple ideas Your thinking can give mental prowess to you but the implementation of those thinking can give solutions to the many What is Thought Leadership  Th...

The Simple Route to Thought Leadership

Image
The Moon & the Water  Some news does catch your eyes. Just yesterday it was announced by the scientific community that they have discovered water molecules on the moon  Though it is a great piece of discovery but not very surprising after all. This fact was waiting to be discovered for we have been trying to find traces of water on the moon for decades. It was just a matter of when  Light is Civilization  Water is actually the synonym of life for humanity. Where there is water there is life & there evolves civilization.  But to me the most surprising aspect of the discovery was something else. It was the particular region on the moon on which the water traces were discovered that fascinated me The water traces were discovered on the sunlit portion of the moon. This has a huge metaphorical significance if we can think beyond the obvious  Thought Leadership is showing Light in Darkness  Anything that is lit has life just like the sunlit porti...

The One Attitude that Lets you Succeed in the Leadership of Ideas

Image
The Uniformity in Digital World  The European Union(EU) wants to create a common charger for all the phones. It wants complete uniformity in electronic accessories The EU wants to reduce the electronic waste due to diversity in the phone chargers The similar efforts in 2009 failed due to interoperability between devices But in Technology the uniformity ultimately gets achieved for the ease of doing business Diversity is Humanity  But imagine creating similar controlled uniformity in human thoughts, ideas, ideology, perceptions etc in our existence It would be a Herculean disaster in the leadership of Ideas What looks as absolute necessity when we deal with Natural Sciences looks totally unscientific when we interact with the Social Sciences We as the people must know that there are worlds existing within the world. There are mini universes being born & breathing within the same universe Let me tell you the greatest Thumb Rule of human existence “ Uniformity is a blessing ...

Plague is a collective destiny....Albert Camus

Image
Albert Camus & the plague period  One of the few good books to read during this period is " The Plague " written by Albert Camus. Albert Camus is one of the few brilliant philosophical minds of the 20th century.  The Plague  In the book " The Plague" , he philosophizes that the human's collective fight for existence against the common threat is an ongoing process. The book philosophizes about human destiny and freedom of choice. Through the book Albert Camus is also trying to refer to all forms of organised injustices via the metaphor of the plague.  The sample passage  Sample below a passage from the book.. Thus week by week the prisoners of plague put up what fight they could. Some, like Rambert, even contrived to fancy they were still behaving as free men and had the power of choice. But actually it would have been truer to say that by this time, mid-August, the plague had swallowed up everything and everyone. No longer were there individual destinies; on...

A Journal of the Plague Year

Image
The earliest book on plague  One of the finest books to read on Pandemics or Epidemics is “ A Journal of the Plague Year by Daniel Defoe”. This book is basically a journal which details about the bubonic plague which devastated London in the 17th century.  It is same today  Some of the incidents and social circumstances described in this book are no different from what is happening today in corona crisis worldwide. Sample one paragraph from the book. The sample Reading  “This was a very terrible and melancholy thing to see, and as it was a sight which I could not but look on from morning to night, for indeed there was nothing else of moment to be seen, it filled me with very serious thoughts of the misery that was coming upon the city, and the unhappy condition of those that would be left in it. This hurry of the people was such for some weeks that there was no getting at the Lord Mayor’s door without exceeding difficulty ; there template was such pressing and crowdi...

The lessons of leadership from Gibbon's book

Leadership & Society  I𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝗻, 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗺 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿. 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆, 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 . COVID 19 & the society  With the grave threat of COVID19 , all societies have seen reduction in their social and economic powers. There is scarcity of capital, infrastructure, equipment, medicines, doctors, leadership etc. This is the loss of power of any society. Now is the time to see and observe which society shows unity, resilience, compassion and farsightedness in the fight against the pandemic.  The compassionate societies  Only those societies which have qualities bereft of hubris hubris in abundance would be able to cope with the aftermath. Those who lack those qualities would carry the scars much longer and may collapse one day. It is not only about material things that keeps any society away from t...

Socrates & Leadership....I to Die & You to Live

Image
Truth too needs symbols  Truth, even though it is truth, still requires symbolism to highlight itself. One of the most iconic examples that can be cited is of Socrates, the Great Greek philosopher. Bertrand Russell writes " Oracle of Delphi was once asked if there were any man wiser than Socrates, and the oracle replied that there was not". Socrates the philosopher  Socrates was put to trial and condemned to death by the Athenian establishment. The charge against Socrates was that he was corrupting the minds of the people specially the young generations. Most of what we know about Socrates comes from the writing of his two pupils Plato and Xenophon. Plato, himself a great philosopher, was present in the court during the trial of Socrates and he wrote the entire dialogues of Socrates in the form of the book called “𝗔𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆" The Apology  At the end of the trial Socrates addresses the unjust court and remarks “ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶...

Cicero Cicero was a Roman Statesman, lawyer and one of its greatest orators. Cicero lived in Rome around First century B.C. Sulla, the most feared military general of that time, ordered the property of an ordinary citizen to be auctioned in contravention of the existing laws. That property was purchased in auction by one of Sulla’s men at a very low price. Roscius, the legal heir to the property, complained in court against the injustice of Sulla. The fear of military General Sulla was such that no lawyer took up the case of Roscius in court. The brave lawyer  It was Cicero who took up Roscius case in spite of knowing the grave danger. Through his brilliant analysis and oratory he won the case for Roscius against the military general Sulla. Cicero, just 27,had to flee his town to escape the wrath of Sulla. True Leadership has Ethical Courage  Great leaders have moral & Ethical courage. They take a public stand, speak and act against injustice, wrongdoings and tyranny....

Leadership must think more than the others

Image
The Thinking  How often do you think about yourself? How much do you know about yourself? What are the extremities of your potential? And what exactly is your potential? The answers to these and many such questions seem easy at first but difficult to answer. Try asking these questions randomly to yourself. You will be surprised to know about yourself more than you had ever known. Asking questions to others is easy but not to oneself The moot question  The moot question then arises. Why do we know so less about our own selves than we know about the others? The one reason could be this. We do not delve into the matters which matters most to us. The one who dive the deepest has more chances of finding the pearl. That's right Philosophers are mere mortals like us. But they think, contemplate & ponder more. They dive into the deepest of the undiscovered seas. We have to dive deep inside our own selves. Then delve into our core. There you will find yourself The poet  Thus s...

The Earliest Recorded Treatise on Philosophy & Leadership

Image
Philosophy is as old as man  Philosophy is as old as the human’s age. The day we started thinking and contemplating we started philosophizing. This was a rudimentary step sans any coherence. Yet it was the start of the search for wisdom The earliest philosophy  Everybody knows that Philosophy began with the Greeks in 6th century B.C. But this is not the case. The oldest known philosophical treatise was written on a clay tablet by an unknown Babylonian king around 2500-2000 B.C. The writing is titled “The philosophy of an unknown King”. Sample one stanza of the philosophy below "The fruit of death may the man eat, and yet the fruit of life may he achieve" Nothing has changed  Humans have been engaged with the question of life and death since ages. We still ask the same questions as asked by the philosopher king above. It seems nothing has changed. We still remain unanswered on the philosophy of existence.  This is the only subject matter on which we remain a...

Leadership & the art of thesis, anti thesis & synthesis

Image
The dialectics  Friedrich Hegel, German Philosopher who laid the foundations of Historical Materialism. He believed that truth can only be known through the process of "dialectic” Hegel explained Dialectic as the process of development of thought where 1. Our first thought is regarded as truth and this becomes our Thesis 2. Then contradiction starts appearing in our Thesis. Counter ideas starts challenging our Thesis. This counter thoughts are our Anti- Thesis 3. This Anti- Thesis also seems equally true 4. Now we are faced with two mutually incompatible or contradictory ideas...The Thesis & the Anti-Thesis 5. But the truth must belong somewhere in the two ideas. 6. Hence out of thesis & antithesis comes out the “Synthesis” 7. This Synthesis is now our Thesis-the accepted truth for time being 8. Again out of this thesis, the anti thesis will come out and then the synthesis and so on and so forth 9. In this way the progress of ideas and thoughts of civilization moves on con...

Great leadership create their own sun & make their own hay

Image
The performing leadership A leadership which never performed the during normal times will wither away during the turbulent days. A performing leadership essence is felt during the ordinary days in all its actions & processes. To the lesser mortal it may seen normal times. But for visionary leaders it symbolizes that change is highly overdue The legacy of successful leadership  Deliberate, well planned & structured changes are the legacy of successful leaders to any organisation. Status Quoism, such leadership believes - are the epitaphs of failure - To not make anticipatory changes to organisation is a crime against leadership - To not convert human resources into change agents is a monumental loss to organisation. The legacy  Successful leadership leaves behind visible trails to their works. some of them can be enumerated like below 1. They change things when nobody wants to change 2. They think when everybody wants to relax 3. They experiment when all wants to copy p...

Leadership is all about humanity

Image
My belief is that what we sow today we generally reap it tomorrow. We must sow the seeds of Humane leadership for our shared future.  We must start teaching more of Philosophy, History & Literature ( PHL )to our leadership. PHL will make a huge difference to the thinking & style If we cannot teach humanity in leadership to the humans, the time is not far when we have to teach it to the robots.
